Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya came into existence on 20 January 1987 after bifurcating from Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur. Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, is an autonomous non-profit, research and educational organization.

In the British regime one Agricultural Research Station was established in 1903 known as “Labhandi Farm” at Raipur. This Labhandi Farm had grown slowly and today it has become the campus of Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur.

The jurisdiction area of IGKV is the entire Chhattisgarh State situated in Eastern India consisting of 18 districts having 3 different Agro climatic Zones. Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya has been felicitated by two reputed and prestigious national awards at New Delhi held on 16th July, 2011.

University has 16 Constituent Govt. Colleges and 15 Affiliated Private Colleges under it. The Nehru Library established in 1987 after IGKV came into existence. University has journal on agricultural issues.

University library is HUB connected on LAN with all automated centralized facilities for distributing all kind of agricultural information to its users. Library maintains around less than 60000 collections of books, reference book, reports, thesis, monograph, back volumes, journals, CD ROM Database and e-resources.
