Agri University: Four new rabi crop varieties by PAU

Punjab Agricultural University releases four new rabi crop varieties namely RLC 3, Hybrid PSH 1962, PBW 677, HD 3086.

1] RLC 3: This is the first canola quality variety of raya in the country. It is a yellow seeded, medium tall variety which is recommended for general cultivation in the state. RLC 3 is resistant to white rust. Its average seed yield is 7.3 q/ acre with 41.5 per cent oil content. It matures in 145 days.

2] Hybrid PSH 1962: It is a short duration crop. Hybrid PSH 1962 is medium tall hybrid with average plant height of 165 cm. It matures in 99 days. The average seed yield of this hybrid is 8.2 q/ acre. The seeds of this hybrid are black and bold with 100 seed weight of 6.4 g. The oil content of this hybrid is 41.9 per cent.

3] PBW 677: It is a dwarf variety of wheat. Its average plant height of 107 cm. The ears of this variety are medium dense and tapering in shape with white smooth glumes. The grains are amber hard and medium bold. It is resistant to yellow and brown rust but susceptible to loose smut disease. It matures in about 157 days.

4] HD 3086: It is a dwarf variety of wheat with an average plant height of 96 cm. The ears of this variety are medium dense and tapering in shape with white smooth glumes. Its grain are amber, hard and medium bold. It is resistant to yellow and brown rust but susceptible to karnal bunt and loose smut diseases. It matures in about 156 days. It’s average grain yield is 23.0 quintals per acre.
