Agriculture Market:Country to get bumper cotton crop this yearHome

The country is moving towards a bumper cotton crop. Out of the 116 lakh hectares under cotton, extremely good production of about 400 lakh bales, the highest ever in the history, is expected. Only 10-12 lakh hectares may be affected by rains.

Scientists at the city-based Central Institute for Cotton Research (CICR) are attributing the bumper crop to three major factors, normal onset of monsoon, sowing on time and even distribution of rainfall, especially in rainfed areas like Vidarbha and most parts of Gujarat.

CICR director Keshav Kranthi said that except for pockets like Warangal, Mehboob Nagar, Medak and Nalgonda districts in Telangana, some parts of Central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Gujarat, rest of the country can expect very good output this year. Till about 15 days back, the crop situation was being considered as bad. But now with revival in rain the crop will surely be very good.
