Campaign Against Crop Residue Burning Launched by KVK

A massive campaign against crop residue burning in the district launched by the Punjab Agricultural University’s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Moga. Various activities were conducted in different villages to create awareness among rural masses regarding ill effects of residue burning and benefit of its incorporation in the soil.

An essay writing competition was organized at Senior Secondary School, Jhandewala. To motivate farmers regarding non-burning of wheat straw, an oath taking ceremony was also conducted.

To highlight the issue, cooperative societies and grain markets of the district were involved. To involve women, youth and children in the campaign, Sandhya Pheri was also organized in the adopted village.

Knowledge regarding harmful effects of wheat straw burning on human health, soil health and environment provided by the scientists of KVK. Extension literature was also prepared and distributed among the masses. Awareness was created regarding various resource conservation technologies.
