Coffee Board expects export of 2.5 lakh tonnes in ’00

Banglore state Coffee Board stated that it expects the country’s coffee exports in ’00 to touch a record 250,000 tonnes compared with 218,230 tonnes in ’99. In quarterly market intelligence report, of the board stated that it has issued export permits for 208,235 tonnes between January and July, which was 25% higher than the same period in ’99.

The report further said out of the (permits issued), confirmation of shipments have been received for 178,832 tonnes. If the trend continues, exports during the current calendar year may touch a record 250,000 tonnes, The report also said that it was revising its final crop estimate for ‘99-00 (oct-sep) to 292,000 tonnes, up from the earlier estimation of 282,000 tonnes.

The increase has come from robusta production in Chikmagalur, Coorg and Wyanad (coffee growing) zones owing to better productivity, the board said. It said the 292,000 tonnes included 119,000 tonnes of arabicas and 173,000 tonnes of robustas, marking an increase of 10,000 tonnes of robusta output from its earlier estimate of 163,000 tonnes.
