Cotton Export

Cotton is a high value crop and an important part of the heritage and the economy in many world areas.

The cotton crop has been facing problems from insects and pests. In India effective pest control programs are being under taken to improve the yield of cotton.

Taking into account India’s cotton export the target fixed for the year 99-00 is 5 lakh bales but has so far been able to export only about 75,000 bales. Traders exported only 100,000 bales in ‘98-99, against a target of 700,000. Trade officials expect a crop of about 16.7 million bales in ‘99-00, against an earlier estimate of 17.5 million. India produced 16.3 million bales in ‘98-99.
