New Delhi market sources stated that the country has achieved a record foodgrain production of 205.91m tonnes during ‘9900. 

Total foodgrain production for the year ‘99-00 surpassed the record production of ‘98-99 by an impressive margin of 2.87m tonnes.

The increase in the production was mainly on account of bumper wheat production of 74.25m tonnes, a 3.47m tonnes increase over last year and a record production of 88.25m tonnes of rice as against 86m tonnes in ’99, as released.
