The Central Arecanut and Cocoa marketing processing company (CAMPCO) has signed an agreement with Traders, Thiruvanthapuram to export Areacanut to Maldives and other countries. Managing Director of Campco claims that about 2000 tonnes of Arecanut would be exported in the first stages and 20 tonnes have been already exported to Mexico and the demand for Arecanut is slowly picking in the market. The crop during 1998-99 had been affected due to scale and mali insects and the demand for arecanut in the market seen is overwhelming, he said. |
