Lower price trend at Calcutta tea auction

At the Calcutta tea auction sale an overall lower price trend was witnessed in all categories of teas during the past week. It is reported that some of the overseas and internal markets remained very selective. In the CTC tea sale, good quality Assam brokens were absorbed at around last levels, the mediums barely steady and the remainder eased in value. The good quality offerings from Dooars were steady and the remainder irregularly lower.

The major blender lent useful support but other packeteers were selective, Gujarat and Maharastra picking up the liquoring lines. Selected smaller brokens and fannings met with some selective export interest. Good Assam brokens sold between Rs.88 and Rs.98, good Dooars between Rs.64 and Rs.74 and south Indian teas between Rs.51 and Rs.56 per kg. The offerings consisted of 35,870 chests. Darjeeling teas met with a good demand, the good. The offerings amounted to 6,305 chests, as said.

Orthodox teas enjoyed a good demand. Good whole leaf sold between Rs.120 and Rs.150, good brokens between Rs.100 and Rs.120 and good fannings between Rs.72 and Rs.85 a kg respectively. The offerings amounted to 19,487 chests, as reported.
