Millers demanded uniform pricing policy for wheat

Southern States wheat flour Mills Confederation have demanded implementation of a uniform wheat pricing policy, saying the prices of wheat and wheat products in the southern states are the highest in the country. The confederation opined that a uniform pricing policy will help reduce the prices of wheat and wheat products by 10 per cent, benefiting the common man. The confederation decided to meet the Centre on this matter, as reported. Expressing dissatisfaction at the current rates introduced by the Food Corporation on India (FCI) through its Open Market Sales Scheme (OMSS), Member of the Karnataka Roller Flour Millers’ Association said that while wheat was made available to the South at Rs. 743 a quintal, it could be bought from the markets at a lower rate. In Bangalore, for instance, the price was Rs. 175 a quintal. Increased the procurement price to Rs. 580 a quintal from Rs.550. Indian wheat is the costliest in the world, as added.
