In Andhra Pradesh the trading volume of tobacco at 21 auction centres is unable to touch the proposed level due to the jamming of auction platforms. The jamming is said to have been caused by non-clearance of stocks by purchasers, especially the State Trading Corporation (STC). Sources said only 1.2-1.3m kg of tobacco is being traded every day against the agreed trading volume of 2m kg per day, because the purchased stocks are yet to leave the auction platforms. Tobacco traders, the STC, cigarette manufacturers, the Tobacco Board, and farmers had agreed at a meeting held on 22 June to trade at least 2 m kg per day to ensure that the entire unsold stock is lifted in two months, as reported. |
