China: exporter of rice

China is increasing its rice production and will remain a net exporter after it joins the World Trade Organization. It is forecasted that china will produce 140.75mt of rice in ’05.

The projected output, based on policy analysis and a simulation model, would make china not only self-sufficient but also maintain its role as a net rice exporters,. China produced about 139 mt of rice in ’99, according to estimates by the US agricultural attache in Beijing. The higher output would be achieved through active government support, as reported from China   market source.
