Estimated Sugar production

The report from FAO i.e. Food and Agriculture Organisation stated that the global sugar production is estimated to have risen more than two per cent year-on-year to 134.3 million tonnes (raw value) in 1999/2000.

The Organisation further informed that the increase was mainly due to a 5% expansion in developed countries. Larger harvests in the European Union and the United States contributed significantly to this growth.

"Production in developed countries is estimated at 44.2 million tonnes, while output in developing countries is expected to increase slightly (less than one %) to reach 90.2 million tonnes," the report said.
