Rise in export of
seafood products by 28%
Market sources reported that Indias export of seafood products has registered a rise of 5.2 % over the previous years level of 63,593 tonnes, the exports stood at 66917 tonnes in the first three months of the current fiscal, whereas 28.2% rise in value terms.

Processed and preserved seafood products make a sharp increase in Indias seafood export for the year 99-00.
Increase export of Seafood products
There are some positive changes in the direction of Indian seafood exports.
For the first time in many years, Indias seafood exports have crossed the Rs 50bn mark, contributing nearly four per cent of the countrys foreign exchange earnings during 99-00.
Export of Marine Products
India has vast potential for the development of export of fish and fishery products. Apart from the traditional items of exports of fish, shrimps, squids, cuttlefish, etc.in block frozen form. India presently exports value added items like Individual Quick Frozen (IQF), cultured shrimp, battered shrimp, cooked shrimp, fish fillet, surimi, live fish, etc.
A target of US $ 1350 million has been fixed for the last year.
For the period of last year it showed a negative growth of 19.75% in quantity terms, 8.18% increase in value in rupee terms and negative growth of 5.17% in dollar terms.
