Foodgrain output 212 mt: for ’00-01

Govt. has fixed a foodgrain production target of 212-m tonnes for 00-01 compared to likely achievement of 201.56 mt last year, as reported. It is also reported that the target for rice and wheat have been fixed at 90 mt and 74 mt compare ton  88.55 mt  and 70.1 mt, respectively, last year.  The production target for coarse cereals has been put at 33 mt compared to 29.36 mt in 99-00and pluses at 15 mt against 13.55 mt last year.  Among coarse cereals, target for maize has been fixed at 11mt compared to 10.78 mt last year and jowar at 10.14 mt as against 8.69 mt in ‘99-00.   Production target for bajra and ragi have been put at 7.24 mt and 2.43mt compared to 5.58 mt and 2.32 mt respectively last year, while that of barley and small millets for ‘00-01 have been fixed at 1.53 mt and 0.66mt respectively.  Likely production of barley and small millets in ‘99-00 is around 1.41 mt and 0.58 mt, reported by market sources.
