Increase in world coffee production

It is forecasted that the world coffee production stays at a record 108.7m bags in ‘00-01, up nearly 2 % from 106.8m bags last year and 5.7 lakh bags above the previous record set in ‘98-99, as reported by the US Agriculture Department USDA estimated Brazil coffee production at 28.1m bags, unchanged from the March 10 forecast. In the ‘99-00 marketing year, Brazil will harvest 27-m bags as reported.

The USDA claimed reasons for the increase coffee production of Colombia that the coffee crop entering an "on-year cycle" and additional trees coming into production." The two South American countries are the world’s largest coffee producers. Vietnam, the third largest coffee producer, will harvest 8 million bags in ‘00-01, unchanged from last year’s output, the USDA said.
