India’s herbal exports decline

India’s herbal export market is declining day by day, which is because of low and improper gradation, according to the Chairman of the Task Force in Ayurvedic Medicines.

India is not able to keep the nominal share of global herbal market though She is home to a variety of traditional medicinal systems. Its export comprised only raw herbs, which were not graded according to quality standards. It is furtherly added that India has earned only Rs. 436 crores from export of medicinal plants, compared to China and Thailand which accounts Rs. 22,000 crores and Rs. 10,000 crores respectively.

It is need to give emphasis on quality gradation to push India in global herbal market. The Kerala Government is taking steps to set up a host of herbal parks in the State in Wayanad and Idukki districts.
