For increasing the fruit production of India, several efforts are being taken up by government. The efforts to build up the infrastructure facilities, like cold storage, will continue in the coming years. Emphasis will be on developing export-oriented fruit crops. We will also be implementing ‘model marketing systems for fruits and vegetables. It will be first implemented in Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta and Bangalore, subsequently, it will be extended to other cities. India stands second in fruit production in world . India contributes about 10 per cent of the world production of fruits thus surfacing as the second largest poducer of the same. The annual production of the fruits in India is 41 million tonnes. |
