Indian silk product exports for ‘99-00

The Central Silk Board (CSB), press report stated that India’s exports of silk products for ‘99-00 have increased in dollar-terms by 16.6 per cent over the previous financial. According to the report, silk products exports for ‘99-00 aggregated $346.43m (as compared to 297.04m for ‘98-99). The range of products exported includes silk goods, silk yarn and silk waste. Exports of silk goods accounted for almost $326m ($325.87m), Western Europe accounted for almost 43% (42.8%) of India’s silk good exports, followed by the US.

Exports have been categorised under 100% EOUs, certified exports from the others, and DEPB without CSB certification. The bulk of the shipments were certified exports, which did not come under the 100% EOU category.

In dollar terms, ‘99-00 saw a 19.6% increase in the certified export realisations not under 100% EOUs. Certified exports of silk goods accounted for almost the entire shipments in this category, increasing 19.9% through realisations of $285.93m as reported.
