Sale of lower grade wheat to flour mills: FCI

The Ministry of Public Distribution and Consumer Affaires had allowed open sale of wheat but since the price was raised to Rs. 900/qtl, to match the sale-price of wheat sold to the Above Povertyline Population in PDS.

The food Corporation of India (FCI) has taken a decision to sell about 29,000 tonnes wheat, of ‘C’ and ‘D’ categories, at a fixed price of Rs. 750 per quintal, plus local taxes as applicable, to roller flour mills. The price is lower than the economic cost of wheat, which is set at Rs. 900 per quintal.

The minimum quantity of ‘C’ and ‘D’ categories of wheat sold to roller flourmills will be 10 metric tonnes as reported by market agencies.

The sale will being from June21.Recently, the Govt. decided to auction upto five million tonnes of wheat in Punjab and Haryana to clear stocks and encourage exports.

It is reported that the floor price for the auction is yet to be announced, but it is likely to be less than the economic cost and closer to the market price.

Wheat stock is estimated to be 254.17 lakh tonnes, as against a buffer norm of 143 lakh tonnes. The total food grain stock on July1 will be about 400 lakh tonnes. .. The minimum quantity of ‘C’ and ‘D’ categories of wheat sold to roller flourmills will be 10 metric tonnes

The interested mills have to contact the Senior Regional Manager of FCI at Guwahati, Patna, Ahmedabad, Jammu, Thiruvananthpuram, Mumbai, Bhopal, Shillong, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Calcutta, Chennai and Lucknow as informed by Delhi sources.
