Madras Fertilizers Ltd.: A Profit Record of Rs. 27 crore

Chennai news agency stated that Madras Fertilizers Limited (MFL), a public sector undertaking, has made a high record profit of Rs 27 crore. The company has achieved a turnover of Rs. 1,224 crore for the year ‘99-00. MFL had achieved a turnover of Rs. 1,754.2 crore and a loss of Rs. 7.1 crore during the extended financial year ‘98-99 ending September 30. However, the company is once again switching over to the April-March financial year from the current year. Furtherly the information stated that MFL proposes to set up a captive power plant as a joint venture on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis or on a long term lease basis with minimum financial exposure from the company. Presently, 75 % of the power requirement was met by TNEB. The company had therefore initiated a proposal for setting up a full capacity captive power plant along with the option of co-generation of steam, which would also help in phasing out old utility boilers. The company hopes to benefit from the LNG terminal coming up at Ennore port.
