As there is plenty stock of rap seed oil, at present there is no scarcity of rapseed in the market and no increase in demand in sight. Meanwhile, there are indications that India’s rapeseed production in 99-00 will decline due to the ongoing drought in the main growing regions. The ‘99-00 harvested area is estimated at 6.4-m hectares, down from the five-year average of 6.7m, industry sources said. The reduced production is a result of the persistent dry conditions during the growing season, October to April, in the state of Gujarat and Rajasthan. These two typically account for 51 % of rapeseed production and have been experiencing dry conditions from late last year. As reported from national market sources. |
