Setting milk production to triple

India’s dairy sector is poised to triple production in the next 10 years, taking advantages of the expanding potential for export to Europe and the West, where withdrawal of support and subsidy has led to a drop in milk production.

India also had the lowest cost of production per litre in the world, at 27 cents, compared with the U.S’s 63 centres, and Japan’s $2.8 dollars.

To meet the target of tripling the current milk production of 76 million tonnes by 2010, fields units were also being setup with the involvement of other agencies.
