Subsidy grants for small Tea growers

In south India the govt. has announced a subsidy of up to Rs.5 per kg to small tea growers badly hit by falling auction tea prices.

The Cabinet ministry announces that the scheme effective from May 1,and would be operational for the next six months or till the average auction prices touched Rs. 55 per kg.

The subsidy would be available to only those tea growers whose land holding is less than 10.1 hectares, as reported, adding the scheme would benefit about 50,000 small tea growers mainly in the south.

The Tea Board would implement the scheme and there would be weekly review of the auction prices at different centres until it reaches the level of Rs. 55 a kg.
