Support prices of copra remains stagnant

Government has taken a decision that there is no increase in support prices for copra.

Government today refused to increase the support prices announced yesterday for milling and ball copra saying it is only the minimum price and the traders are free to buy at the higher price from farmers.

The prices announced yesterday were minimum prices meant to give support to farmers to increase production as reported.

The Agriculture Prices Commission had recommended these prices and the government’s decision was based on these recommendations.

There was a delay in announcing the support prices due to the delay in getting the recommendations from the Agriculture Prices Commission.
