Onion is an important export vegetable, which fetches a huge amount of foreign exchange every year. The Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Banglore has developed two new onion hybrids, viz. Arka Kirthiman and Arka Lalima. These have uniforms bulbs of globe shape. Since there bulbs are firm, they can be stored for 4-5 months at room temperature. Both hybrids can be grown in Kharif and Rabi season. The bulbs of Arka Kirthiman have attractive red colour and yield of 40-45 tonnes/ha. While Arka Lalima have deep red colour with yield 45 to 50 tonnes/ha. |

Pusa Sumeet is the first improved variety of the winter bean. It is a protein rich vegetable. It grows upto 0.75 m in height and bears 100 pods each. A pod contains 4 seeds, weighing on an average 1.75 g. It is ideally suited variety for winter season. This is a high yielding improved variety for home and kitchen gardening also for commercial purpose. The sowing time is October to February. The average yield is 18 tonnes/ha |

PAC-9735: Maize Hybrid Advanta India Ltd., as released a new improved maize hybrid variety viz. PAC-9735. The duration of this variety is 110 days, the plant height 210-230 cm. The ear head is filled with orange and yellow coloured grains from top to bottom. This variety gives more yield and which also tolerate water stress. The leaves remain grain at the time of cutting which is fed as a fodder to the animals. |
