AP sets up a mega cold storage plant An integrated cold storage plant is being set up near Hyderabad in order to give a major boost to the export of eggs from Andhra Pradesh. The estimated cost of the plant is Rs.5.5 crore. The integrated plant will have egg washing, grading, packing, as also cold storage facilities. The project will have the capacity to store 50 crore eggs at a time. The project is being jointly set up by govt. of Andhra Pradesh and co-operative society of poultry farmers, traders, and exporters, in association with Apeda. The govt. of Andhra Pradesh has agreed to give five acres of land to the co-operative society on a long lease for setting up the project. The Apeda will contribute Rs. 2 crore as one-time grant towards the project cost, while the co-operative society will chip in with Rs 1 crore as its share. The remaining Rs. 2.5 crore will be raised as term loans from domestic financial institutions. The state government official added that the unit will be of immense help to poultry farmers, traders and exporters as they can have the eggs hygienically washed, graded and stored before exporting them to other states or abroad. The integrated cold storage plant will certainly benefit the poultry farmers and traders to store the eggs for much longer periods before exporting them. |
