Helban:
a biological insecticide

Seeds Ltd., Pachora has introduces Helban, the biological insecticide which works on the
principle of IPM. Nuclear Polyhydrosis Virus (NPV) has been effectively used to eliminate
Helocovarsha armiyera commonly called as American Pod Borer.
Herlban
has been effective on gram, cotton, tomato, etc. The NPV virus being harmless to mammals,
fishes, birds, silk worms and other useful parasites is effectively used to kill
caterpillars on various crops. Caterpillars feeding on sprayed crop is infected with virus
through digestive system and spreads all over the body killing small caterpillars within
span of 3-4 days and big ones in 7-10 days. 1000 LE per ha NPV should be used to get the
desired results. It should be spread immediately on spotting the caterpillars. Second
spraying should be done at an interval of 7 10 days. Spraying should be done in
early hours of the day or in the afternoon. Cloudy atmosphere is also suitable for
spraying. |
