Sugarcane sets treatment It is essential for better germination and good growth that the availability of good quality cane seed material (setts) from a nursery crop of six months. Most sugar cane growers are using the seed materials (Setts) from 6-12 months of nursery crop/main crop depending upon the water availability during that particular season. Setts germination is a major problem during this period. An experiment was conducted at Agricultural Engineering College and Research Institute, Kumulur, to study the effect of different chemicals to improve the germination of cane (CO-86032). The treatments included were namely control, 0.05 per cent Bavistin, 2.5 per cent Urea, 2.5 per cent KCI, 2.5 per cent KCI+ Urea, 1% Hadron. This Hadron is a product of Iodine (pure), Acetyl salicyclic acid, Curcuma longa, Acorus calamus, Albizzia amara, auxillary chemicals and filler. Two budded setts were used for planting after treating with above chemicals. The setts treated with Hadron recorded higher germination percentage of 67.5 %, followed by Hadron 2 % (60%) and 2.5 % Urea treatments (55%), against only 42.5% with control treatment. |
