Combine Harvesters and Transplanters

Combine Harvesters and Transplanters, manufactured by Escorts Limited, are now under operation in all States. The villagers are migrating to nearby cities in search of better life. So mechanisation is the best alternative. Even those who are available in villages are either not capable of manual work or have no inclination to take up. Viewed in this light, it is absolutely necessary to introduce machines acceptable and profitable to the farmers. With this in view, these Combine Harvesters and Transplanters have been designed with a known and proven internationally accepted technology. Because of its various advantages it has been accepted by the people of all walks of life. The salient features of these machines are as follows:

  1. In conventional manual harvesting there is a loss of grain in the field at the time of cutting, at the time of transporting to the threshing ground and ultimately in the threshing ground due to poor threshing whereas these losses are completely eliminated by using this machine.

  2. The paddy harvested by the machine is free from dust and savvy etc. and the standard is maintained uniformly without mud etc. this is quite different from manual operation.

  3. In machine harvesting various stages of harvesting get completed in a single short in a very short span of one acre per hour as compared to five days (approximately) in case of manual harvesting.

  4. The cost of machine harvesting is less than the manual operation which is prohibitively costly.

  5. There is a saving of eight to 10% grains because of elimination of losses of grains at various stages. Thus the farmer’s income goes up.

  6. Not only these machines save time but also ensure quality and more yield.

  7. In cyclone-prone states like Tamilnadu these machines ensure timely transplanting and harvesting of paddy thus obviating enormous losses.

In view of the above features of these machines the Government of Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, and Haryana (major paddy cultivating states) have exempted Transplanters and Combine Harvesters from Sales Tax. In Orissa, the government is providing 20% subsidy for the farmers on purchase of these machines. In Kerala, the government is encouraging cooperative societies to buy these machines. Besides, they are providing subsidy on hiring charges to the farmers utilising these machines.
