Methyl Bromide:An Effective Soil Fumigant

Fumigants are volatile liquids. Their high vapour pressure distribute the gas through soil’s pores in all direction. The most economical and efficient fumigant for all type of soil was identified to the methyl bromide with the following advantage.

  • Quick, and deep penetration into the soil.
  • Very short exposure period
  • Short waiting period between the fumigation and sowing or planting
  • Efficient even under wide range of temperatures.

Methyl bromide controls all the soil borne pests like nematodes, soil borne fungi, soil borne bacteria, parasitic plants and soil insects. It also controls most of the annual and perennial weeds and liberates organic compounds, including N2 that temporarily increases soil fertility. A high concentration for a short time is as effective as a lower concentration for a longer time.
