It is another requirement of high-tech agriculture and is being used for few commodities exported from the country. This is relatively cheaper as compared to air transport. In Maharashtra, grape growers through their organizations have established `pre-cooling’ plants. The produce, after harvest, is kept in these plants at a particular Temperature and for a particular period. Then it is loaded in the refrigerated container mounted on a truck, having cooling arrangement during transport to the port. The Container at the port is then loaded in the Steamer which has also cooling arrangement. Thus, the produce goes to longer destinations in good condition. |
