Even though, we are self sufficient in food today, with increasing population food needs are also increasing. It is also said that our agricultural production is not increasing, at a faster rate as in the past, and we need another `Green Revolution in the Country. Steps are being taken to increase the use of high yielding varieties, balanced use of fertilizers, integrated pest management, etc. Not only the irrigation facilities are increasing, the emphasis is placed on the proper use of water. In scarcity areas, use of sprinkler/drip irrigation is encouraged. Soil and Water Conservation measures are being adopted on substantial scale. Subsidies, incentives, minimum support prices are also the measures ultimately encouraging increased food production. Scientists are confident that we would be able to maintain food security and food production in the Country in the near future. |
