The Union Government’s Department of Bio technology has sanctioned a ‘Bio-informatic centre’ at the College of Fisheries in Mangalore at a cost of over Rs.30 lakh. A centre has been necessitated ‘since the science of making use of genetic information is emerging as the new field of bio-information’ which might have far reaching implications in the areas of ‘health management, drug development, development of high-yielding and disease resistant crops and animals etc. It is hoped that as a result of this bio informatics centre the quality of agri research will improve. |
