The Joint Director of the Agriculture Department (Karnataka) has urged farmers to make use of the interim crop insurance scheme launched for summer crop. Farmers growing paddy in H.D.Kote, K.R.Nagar, Nanjangud and T.N.Narasipur may apply by January 28. The scheme is mandatory for those who have taken crop loans. The Union Cabinet recently approved a proposal to discontinue with the experimental crop insurance scheme that was introduced by the Government in select districs. The Cabinet has now directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation to formulate a new and better scheme. The government says it decided to scrap this experimental scheme as it implementaion was facced several administrative and other dificulties . A major hitch was that states were not prepare to bear the financial liabilities with regards to claims and insurance charges that were envisaged under the experimental scheme. |
