Awareness Campaign Against Residue Burning Launches By KVK, Kapurthala

Kapurthala: To aware the farmers, farm women , rural youth and public about ill effects of straw burning, available techniques and recommended machinery for straw management; an awareness campaign (from 15th - 30th April, 2018) was inaugurated by the KVK, Kapurthala.

On the first day of pakhwara, the team of KVK scientists visited village Kheerawali where paddy-wheat crop rotation is followed by the farmers and in order to make the general public aware bout the ill effects of wheat straw burning ,an awareness camp was organized in the Government senior secondary school , Kheerawali.

Dr. Manoj Sharma , AD(T), KVK , Kapurthala sensitize the participants about importance of straw management and need for creating awareness regarding this issue among rural masses. Dr. Bindu Marwaha discussed about the recommended machinery and techniques of straw management.

Dr. Gurmeet Singh stressed upon avoiding straw burning for the sake of saving famer friendly insects to maintain biodiversity. It was emphasized by the KVK team to the students to spread this message among the friends, parents, relatives and where ever they see that people were burning garbage, dried leaves etc in the open, must be requested not to pollute our own environment.

In this programme School Principal Mrs. Daljit Kaur, teachers and more than 100 students actively participated. In the end, the principal of the school made an appeal to all the students and staff to follow and spread the message given by the team of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kapurthala for the welfare of the society and save the environment.
