Livestock Farming: National Livestock Championship Organised in Punjab.

Bathinda: The National Livestock Championship organise by Punjab government on the lines of the famous Pushkar mela in Rajasthan with an aim to give it an international flavour. The championship will be held at Muktsar, Punjab from January 8 to 12, 2016.

Invitations to teams from Australia, UK, Canada, New Zealand and Germany had sent by the state animal husbandry department with the dual purpose of making them participate in show and attract foreign tourists by showcasing colours of Punjab.

Officials said that participation confirmation was received from the high commissions of Australia and UK and Response from Canada, New Zealand and Germany was awaited. During the championship the department has also decided to organise progressive livestock exposition.

"The Punjab government has decided to take the livestock championship to a higher level and turn it into an international event," said Harjinderjit Singh Sandha, who is State animal husbandry department director.

To encourage animal rearing and increasing public participation, progressive farmers from various states will also be honoured during the event.

Sandha said, "Competitions will be held in animal rearing, fish farming and piggery for the first time." Adding that they were also trying to promote horse breeding and for it equestrian and polo matches would be organised for which teams from the Army, Border Security Force (BSF) and police from various Indian states were being approached.
