Veterinary department conducted training for Livestock Farmer

The department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services conducted a combined “Block Level Orientation Program on Training and Capacity Building” under the “National Livestock Mission 2017-18” for Botsa and Chiephobozou Block with progressive farmers of piggery, poultry and dairy at Chiephobozou Women Society Hall on July 12.

Dr. Joseph M. Angami briefed farmers on the importance of livestock in generating self employment and upliftment of the rural economy. The farmers were also encouraged to take up livestock farming seriously by setting targets and achieving them.

He also emphasized on timely vaccination of animals and poultry birds to prevent various diseases.

The resource person VAS, vety. dispensary, Chiephobozou, Dr. Vikuolie Mezhatsu deliberated on “Housing, Care and Management of swine, poultry and dairy animals.”

He also emphasized on the dangers of zoonotic diseases and their prevention. The Town Council of Chiephobozou extended its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the department, particularly the officers and staff of Veterinary Dispensary, Chiephobozou and CVO, Kohima for updating their knowledge of scientific skills, knowledge and creating awareness among livestock and poultry farmers.

The council further appealed to the department to continue conducting such programs and assisting farmers in the future as most of the farmers depend solely on animal husbandry for their livelihood.
