PAMETI Skill Trained Rural Youth in Organic Farming

Punjab Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (PAMETI) in association with School of Organic Farming, PAU organized a six days training programme on “Organic Farming and Production of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants” under Skill Training for Rural Youth (STRY) from 08-13 October, 2018 at its campus.

The programme was sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of India and was conducted under the guidance of National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad. Training course was attended by 16 rural youth from different districts of the State.

Ms Bharti Madan, Deputy Director (IT), PAMETI was the training coordinator who informed about the objective of the course. She said that Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) is aimed at imparting skill-based training to rural youth on agri-based vocational areas in agriculture & allied areas to promote employment in rural areas. In this regard, the said training was organized on Organic Farming so that the participants can learn to grow organic crops and the day by day increasing demand of organic produce can be met.

Earlier, Dr H S Dhaliwal, Director PAMETI, inaugurated the training programme and promoted organic farming. Various faculty members from School of Organic Farming and other experts from different departments of PAU, imparted practical knowledge to the trainees during the programme.

Trainees also visited Integrated Farming System model, Herbal Garden, Vermi compost unit, Organic farm in PAU where they interacted with experts. Training concluded with the feedback from the participants.
